Grand Rounds Session to Debut at 16th International Congress

Contributed by Timothy Lynch, MB, BSc, FRCP

New this year to the International Congress Scientific Program in Dublin will be the Movement Disorder Grand Rounds Session. The session will be in a Skills Workshop format and 4-5 actual volunteer patients with a known complex movement disorder will be in attendance.

This is the first time MDS has included patients as part of a Congress session. Michael Farrell and Timothy Lynch will be the Chairs for the session and will facilitate the workshop. The movement disorder experts will be Victor Fung, Anthony Lang, Niall Quinn and Kapil Sethi.

There will also be involvement by Residents/Registrars/Fellows in this session. They will present the patient's history and clinical findings and will include a video of the movement disorder.

Throughout the process, the Chairs will be asking the experts and audience relevant questions and will ensure that all historical and clinical information has been taken accurately.

The purpose of this session will be to show how a movement disorders expert takes a clinical history and performs a movement disorders examination of a patient to generate a diagnosis and management strategy. Audience participation will be strongly encouraged.

Once the expert has presented the differential diagnosis, the other experts, chairs, or audience members may debate and discuss their findings. After each case, the Resident will show additional slides with diagnosis information and take-home messages will be presented. The experts and chairs will also have an opportunity to make their final comments and observations.

This session will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 15:15 - 17:15 at the Convention Centre Dublin. This will be a ticketed session and due to the interactive nature of the session, seating will be limited. We encourage delegates to choose their tickets as soon as they register for the Congress.
